Little Genius

You have the kit. Here are ten structures to build, how to put them together, and how to reach us if something is not right.

What's in your set

Counting your pieces before you start is the quickest way to know everything is there.

Solid birch, left unvarnished. The wood is untreated, so the colour and grain vary from one rod to the next — that is the material, not a defect.

How to build

Rods push into the connector holes at 90° or 45°. That is the whole system — everything else is imagination.

  1. Lay the base. Assemble pieces flat on the floor to define the shape — a square, an octagon, whatever the structure calls for. Work on a level surface.
  2. Build up. Insert rods vertically into the connectors already on the ground. Make sure each level is secure before starting the next one.
  3. Cover it. Drape the cotton fabric, a bedsheet or a blanket over the frame.
  4. Play. This is the part they are good at.
  5. Pack away. Take it apart and store everything in the cotton bag, ready for tomorrow's build.

If a rod feels loose

Wood is a living material — indoor temperature and humidity make the pieces expand and shrink. If a rod stops gripping the way it used to, lightly moisten the connector hole or the rod tip, insert it, and let it dry. The grip comes back.
Adult supervision. Assembly and disassembly should be done with the help of an adult, who checks that the structure is properly connected and stable before a child plays inside it.

Ten things to build

Each one lists the pieces it needs, so you can check against your set before you start. Every structure below fits in one kit unless it says otherwise.

Uses every piece in the set. On the rounded shapes, the direction of the connectors matters — at each level, a rod should always point along a matching face of the connector.

This one needs more rods than a single set holds. Your kit has 44. Build it by joining two sets together — every Little Genius rod and connector is compatible — or shorten one tower by four rods.
